What-If Analysis and What-If Scenario in Calc

What-If Analysis

Definition: What-If Analysis is a feature in Calc that helps us find different results by changing the values in a formula.

Simple Meaning: It answers the question: "What will happen if I change this value?"

Example:

Suppose you sell a book for ₹100.

  • Quantity = 10
  • Formula = Price × Quantity
  • Total = ₹100 × 10 = ₹1000

Now change the quantity from 10 to 15.

New Total = ₹100 × 15 = ₹1500

This is called What-If Analysis because you changed one value to see a new result.

What-If Scenario

Definition: A What-If Scenario is a saved set of different values. It lets you compare different situations without entering the values again and again.

Simple Meaning: It answers the question: "What if the values are different in different situations?"

Example:

Scenario Price Quantity Total
Normal ₹100 10 ₹1000
Festival Sale ₹90 10 ₹900
High Demand ₹100 15 ₹1500

You can save these as different scenarios and switch between them easily.
